Supperland

$3.00

This gorgeous foodie experience is housed in a “restored mid-century church” and I can say the restoration went pretty well. It is one of the most elegant dining rooms in Charlotte, without being too hoity-toity. On their website, they describe their décor as “southern influences melded with touches from London”. Part of the restaurant is a separate bar (“The Bar at Supperland”), which is housed in a totally separate building just steps away from the main building and connected by a wooden patio. There is also a speakeasy in the basement that is available only by reservations. They are locally famous for their weekend Brunch Buffet which features a frittata, benedict, and grits station, along with other rare delectable brunch items such as lobster deviled eggs, tea sandwiches, grilled shrimp, and prime filet. Come for dinner and you can enjoy Southern – but exotic-sounding – items like “sausage gravy croquettes”, “pork can-can”, “poulet rouge”, and “Caroliina gold rice casserole”. They even have broccoli grilled with bone marrow butter! Southern, but not your typical Southern, for sure. They announce on their website, “We’re looking at southern cooking in a new way, getting inspiration from southern steakhouses & church potluck picnics”. In fact, they claim that they source their ingredients from two hundred farms in North Carolina. Even if you’re already stuffed, don’t leave without getting a “S’mores cobbler” or some other decadent dessert. This is a Charlotte institution, and not just because it was formerly a church!
