Pizzeria Omaggio
This is a cute small restaurant within “The Metropolitan” mixed-use development. According to their website, they “take pride in and pay tribute to the art of pizza”. Hence the name “Omaggio”, which mean exactly what it sounds like – “homage”! Their focus is on the pizza, but they strive to assert themselves as a full Italian restaurant by also offering antipasti (starters), soups, salads, Italian sandwiches, and pastas. They have numerous items in each category, so there’s quite a bit to choose from here. The lentil soup, with goat cheese added, was hearty, comforting and flavorful. They offer both classic pizzas and white pizzas… or you can convert any pizza into a calzone. The ingredients are clearly fresh and high-quality, which creates fine pizza and other Italian fare for all their dining guests. They always feature a seasonal pizza… At the time of this writing, it’s a pie with sliced potato, rosemary, and black truffle – sounds like a winner to me. I don’t think I’ve been treated more like a “monarch” in all my culinary experiences in Charlotte. While there, I had a particular clumsy moment as I kept dropping my napkins on the floor (plus the bar table was very narrow). As soon as my napkin hit the floor – all three times – someone immediately whisked over and picked it up and replenished it with a new one. For that kind of royal treatment, as well as the food, I’ll return here again and again!
