Botiwalla (Indian)
This restaurant is located within the food hall called Optimist Hall, but somehow it earned the right (or paid) to have its own dining room which prevents you from having to fight for a seat in the main dining area if you order from here. According to the website, this place is Chef Irani’s “homage to the lively Irani Cafes of India – tea and kabab houses run by [immigrants] to India in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.”. This restaurant’s masala smashed potatoes are one of my favorite “fries” in Charlotte… wonderfully cooked and seasoned, and not quite as smashed as you would think. They have numerous rice bowls, salads, and my favorite – the chicken tikka roll, which is one of the wrap-like “rolls” that they serve. It’s all a spicy flavor adventure here. And afterwards, roam around the rest of Optimist Hall to choose another meal… for your next visit that is… because you’ll already be pleased with what you’ve ordered at Botiwalla!
